Rahul Gandhi Urges PM Modi to Prioritize NEET Debate in Parliament
Rahul Gandhi

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has made a fervent appeal for a debate on the contentious NEET issue in the Lok Sabha on July 3. Gandhi's request comes in the wake of the Opposition's repeated attempts to raise the matter in both Houses of Parliament, only to be denied the opportunity on June 28 and Monday. The Congress leader has emphasized the urgency of the situation, citing the welfare of nearly 24 lakh NEET aspirants across India as the primary concern. Gandhi has also pointed out the deep-rooted issues plaguing the higher education system, with over 70 paper leaks affecting more than 2 crore students in the past seven years."Our students deserve answers," Gandhi asserts in his letter. "A parliamentary debate is the first step towards rebuilding and restoring their faith."Acknowledging the Lok Sabha Speaker's assurance to discuss the matter with the government, Gandhi has urged Prime Minister Modi to personally lead the debate in the interest of the students. He has expressed a desire to engage constructively to find a way forward, emphasizing that the Opposition's sole aim is to ensure the well-being of the NEET aspirants.Gandhi's letter underscores the growing clamor for accountability and transparency in the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which has become a flashpoint in the ongoing session of Parliament. The recent paper leak incidents have only served to exacerbate the concerns of students and parents alike, fueling the demand for a comprehensive discussion on the issue. As the government and the Opposition engage in a battle of wits, the fate of the NEET aspirants hangs in the balance. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether the Parliament can rise above partisan politics and prioritize the interests of the students, who have placed their trust in the system.
