Nari Hira, the esteemed founder and editor of Stardust Magazine, has passed away at the age of 86 on August 23. His family announced the news with deep sorrow, honoring him as a trailblazer in print media and a beloved family man who leaves behind a profound legacy.
Hira was a prominent figure in the Indian media landscape, known for establishing influential publications such as Stardust, Savvy, Showtime, Society, and Health. His innovative approach to magazine publishing earned him the title of the "King of Indian Magazines."Born in 1938 in what is now Karachi, Hira relocated to Mumbai with his family following the partition in 1947. He began his career as a journalist in the 1960s before transitioning into publishing, where he made his mark by revolutionizing film coverage and magazine content.In addition to his publishing endeavors, Hira was also involved in film production through Hiba Films, which produced around 15 video films in the 1980s, and later established Magna Films in 2007.Despite his public persona, Hira was known to be a private individual. Following his passing, his son, Rahuul Hira, has taken over as the managing director of Magna Publishing.The news of Hira's death has prompted tributes from notable figures in the industry, including novelist and columnist Shobhaa De and journalist Vir Sanghvi.
