AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan Arrested for Alleged Corruption and Cash Transactions

Amanatullah Khan, an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 3, 2024, following a search of his residence. The ED alleges that Khan was involved in "tainted" cash transactions linked to the purchase of property in Delhi, purportedly using "ill-gotten" funds.

The case against Khan stems from two FIRs filed by the Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which investigate alleged irregularities during his tenure as chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board from 2016 to 2021. The charges include illegal appointments within the board and misusing his official position to allocate properties improperly.The ED claims that Khan avoided cooperation with the investigation, having responded to only one of the 14 summons issued to him. The agency's findings suggest that his associates managed the illicit funds, which were allegedly used to facilitate cash payments for the property in question.Khan's party has defended him, asserting that he is a victim of political framing, similar to other AAP leaders who have criticized the BJP.
