Faridabad Tragedy: Class 12 Student Aryan Mishra Shot Dead by Alleged Cow Vigilantes

On August 23, a Class 12 student named Aryan Mishra was tragically shot dead in Faridabad, Haryana, by a group of five men who claimed they mistook him for a cattle smuggler. The suspects—identified as Saurabh, Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, and Adesh—were arrested on August 28 and have been placed in police custody.

According to police reports, the accused received information about suspected cattle smugglers operating in the area and followed Aryan's vehicle for approximately 30 kilometers along the Delhi-Agra National Highway. When they attempted to stop the car, the driver accelerated, prompting the group to open fire, resulting in Aryan's death near the Gadhpuri toll plaza.While the police report does not explicitly label the suspects as cow vigilantes, NDTV spoke with Anil Kaushik's mother, who stated that her son believed he was pursuing a cattle smuggler. She claimed he did not fire any shots and insisted on his innocence, describing him as a protector of cows.Further investigation revealed two vehicles associated with Anil Kaushik: a Mahindra Bolero marked with "Gau Raksha Dal" and a cow ambulance featuring his name. All suspects have since been moved to judicial custody, and authorities have recovered the weapon used in the shooting.The police are also exploring the possibility of prior enmity as a motive for the attack. Aryan's father has suggested that one of his son's acquaintances may have been involved in a conspiracy leading to the tragic incident. Forensic examinations of the weapon are underway as the investigation continues to unfold.
